With the current energy crisis expected to continue at least for the coming week, Eskom has released a new schedule to indicate when various stages of load shedding will be implemented.

“Stage 4 is currently being implemented until midnight. Stage 2 loadshedding will then be implemented until 05:00 on Monday morning. Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented at 05:00 until 16:00. From 16:00 until 22:00 Stage 6 loadshedding will be implemented, before it is lowered to Stage 4 until midnight,” said Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha.

The power utility has been struggling to keep the lights these past few weeks, mostly due to an ongoing workers strike at some of its stations. Unions representing staff have already met with Eskom which tabled a wage offer on Friday.

Eskom has said that stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented from midnight until 05:00 on Tuesday, before increasing to stage 4 from 05:00 to 16:00. Stage 5 loadshedding will then kick in from 16:00 until 22:00. Loadshedding will then be lowered to stage 4 until midnight.

“We currently have 3 384MW on planned maintenance, while another 18 319MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns. Eskom thanks all workers who have reported for duty and who continue to perform diligently under extremely challenging conditions,” Mantshantsha added.
