Eskom issued a power alert at approximately 23:50 on Friday night, 17 February, announcing that power cuts would be maintained at Stage 4 until further notice.

STAGE 4 LOAD SHEDDING AFTER FIVE UNITS GO DOWN

The beleaguered power utility said load shedding would remain at an elevated level due to breakdowns.

A generating unit each went down at Koeberg, Medupi, Kriel, Arnot and Lethabo power stations.

“…the implementation of load shedding will be maintained at Stage 4 until further notice. Eskom will issue updates as soon as it is necessary,” said the power utility.

On 12 February, Eskom said Stage 3 load shedding would be in place during the day and Stage 4 load shedding would kick in from 16:00 until 5:00 the next day.
