Well, there’s nothing more ominous than a ‘Ted Blom-shell’. The Eskom expert and senior energy analyst has posted a chilling warning on his Twitter page – telling South Africans to prepare for Stage 4 of load shedding this week.

Earlier on Wednesday, the energy firm revealed that they would be implementing Stage 2 power cuts, from 14:00 today until 5:00 on Saturday. However, Blom reckons that the severity of our load shedding will soon DOUBLE.

Stage 4 warning: Should South Africans be worried?
For those interested, Eskom has since apologised for the current state of the energy grid, claiming that they have to do what is necessary to protect their emergency reserves. But sadly, ‘sorry’ doesn’t keep the lights on – and it doesn’t really make any of us feel better about the possibility of Stage 4 load shedding, either.
“Regretfully, due to the ongoing insufficient generation capacity and the loss of a unit each at Medupi, Duvha, and Kendal Power Stations this morning. Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented from 14:00 today, until 5:00 on Saturday 20 November. This is to preserve our remaining emergency reserves.”
“Total breakdowns currently amount to 15 485 MW, while planned maintenance is 4 100 MW of capacity. Load shedding is only implemented as a last resort, to maintain the stability of the power system – and we apologise for the inconvenience.”

Why can’t Eskom keep the lights on?
Five units tripped out yesterday, sparking a pre-warning from Eskom that power outages were likely to take place soon. CEO Andre de Ruyter announced during a media briefing earlier that load shedding would stay in place for the next three days, and issues with two separate boiler tubes are preventing the firm from moving forward.
