Eskom extends Stage 6 load shedding after breakdown at Medupi

Eskom announced the extension of Stage 6 load shedding until further notice after a generation unit breakdown at Medupi Power Station.

Stage 6 load shedding will continue until further notice after Eskom suffered a generation unit breakdown on Wednesday night, 12 April.

STAGE 6 LOAD SHEDDING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE: ESKOM

Late on Wednesday, at approximately 23:00, the power utility said a unit broke down at Medupi Power Station in Limpopo, necessitating the extension of Stage 6 power cuts.

“Stage 6 load shedding will continue until further notice. Eskom will provide an update as soon as any significant changes occur,” said Eskom.

Medupi running at full tilt can produce 4800MW, and each of its six units has an installed capacity of 800MW.

Eskom previously said the power station in Lephalale is the fourth largest coal-fired plant and the largest dry-cooled power station in the world.
