UPDATE: Truck driver allegedly loses control, causes 30-car pile-up, multiple serious injuries reported [PICS]

A truck driver allegedly lost control on the M41 Highway in Durban causing a massive pile-up involving at least 30 vehicles on Monday.

Emergency workers reported that at least 30 vehicles were involved in the massive accident along the M41 Highway in Durban on Monday morning, 6 March.

SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED IN M41 PILE-UP

Netcare911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said paramedics responded to the accident on the M41 eastbound near Umhlanga Ridge at approximately 7:40.

“Reports allege that a truck driver lost control travelling down the road when he ploughed through morning traffic,” said Herbst.

“On the scene with Netcare 911 were Emer-G-Med paramedics, SAPS, Durban Metropolitan SAR, and Ethekwini Fire and Rescue.”

Paramedics found at least 22 injured patients at the scene. The severity of the injuries ranged from minor to serious.

Herbst added that many people were rushed to hospitals by private vehicles prior to the arrival of emergency workers. Netcare911 has activated its helicopter to airlift patients to the hospital from the scene.

Earlier, ALS paramedics said at least 15 vehicles were involved in the M41 pile-up, and several were injured, but no deaths were reported.
