Axed Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter gave the bombshell interview that seemingly saw him removed from office with immediate effect days after he discovered he might have been poisoned.

DE RUYTER GAVE BOMBSHELL INTERVIEW AFTER POISONING

After he resigned on 14 December, de Ruyter revealed that an alleged attempt had been made on his life.

He said doctors found elevated levels of cyanide in his blood. He was allegedly poisoned on 12 December. In January, Eskom confirmed that the South African Police Service (SAPS) were investigating whether there was an attempt to poison the outgoing CEO.

City Press reported that the poisoning attempt was made within hours of de Ruyter submitting his resignation letter, two days before the move was officially announced.

“His face was extremely red and later began to swell. His speech and balance were also impaired – all typical symptoms of moderate cyanide poisoning,” wrote the newspaper.

De Ruyter said the power utility was a feeding trough for the ANC, amongst other revelations in the interview.

The interview aired on Tuesday evening. By Wednesday night, Eskom decided that the outgoing CEO, who was meant to stay on until 31 March, would be let go immediately after a special board meeting was held.
