The ANC has given its member Carl Niehaus the axe after he failed to give reasons as to why he should not be fired.

Niehaus found himself in hot water with the ANC once again – this time for announcing he would be laying criminal charge against the governing party’s top six leadership over its failure to pay staff. salaries

He is already on suspension for comments he made outside former president Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla homestead back in July, ahead of his arrest for contempt of court.

Carl Niehaus fails to defend himself

ANC general manager Febe Potgieter had given Niehaus until 16:00 on Thursday to state his case, but all indications are that he has failed to meet that deadline.

“If Carl has not complied with that letter, what we will be doing is that we’ll be dismissing him in the manner that is expressed in the letter. If he feels that his rights are being infringed, like any other South African who has got rights, he is entitled to do so,” said ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe in an interview with eNCA.

“However we are not going to make Carl Niehaus a permanent feature of our own lip service. We ought to be seen as acting. We have had to deal with this issue of Carl for quite some time now. The ANC is focused on the 2021 local government elections. If comrade Carl has not complied, I can tell you now he is officially dismissed”

In the letter to Niehaus, Potgieter said the MKMVA spokesperson hasn’t done anything to distance himself from a statement, presumably by him, in which he threatens to gun for the ANC.

“At the time of writing this letter you have not distanced yourself from the press release which has your name and number. As your employer, the ANC would like you to provide it with the reasons why it should not summarily dismiss you”

“You have until 4pm this afternoon to furnish the ANC (through the office of the general manager) with the requested reasons and a failure to do so will result in the immediate termination of your employment contract without further notice,” Potgieter says in the letter.
