South Africans using Capitec Bank were in for a nasty surprise on Tuesday, 25 April 2023 – many customers of the bank claimed they woke up only to find a R0.00 balance on the app.

There is still no word from Capitec as to what exactly caused the supposed glitch. According to some customers, the app shows there are no funds in their account, ironically on payday, despite their debit orders having successfully gone through.

“Debit orders going through with zero balances,” said one Capitec user on Twitter.

While another customer wrote on the app: “… So I got paid and the statement shows that I got paid but my Balance says I’ve got R8.10 in my savings account. Yazi this is now funny. I can’t even be mad anymore”

MORE PROBLEMS WITH CAPITEC BANK

This isn’t the first time Capitec Bank has experienced glitches that inconvenienced its customers. In March, users complained the app was rejecting their secret pins with a red notification stating ‘Incorrect Pin – Please try again.’

As if that wasn’t enough, last year,

frustrated Capitec Bank clients took to social media to reveal they can’t access funds in their accounts after the bank revealed it was experiencing an infrastructure problem on its central servers that support its banking channels. The bank’s mobile application, online, and cellphone banking platforms were down for over 24 hours,  according to EWN .

“We are aware that some of our clients are experiencing issues on our app, internet banking, and USSD services. We want to assure you that we are on it and doing everything possible to resolve the issue. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience. ATMs and cards are working,” Capitec bank responded.
