Sympathies have been in short supply from the community of Bonteheuwel, after two prominent gangsters from the Cape Town suburb were gunned down in separate incidents over the weekend.

Deaths of ‘known gangsters’ welcomed by Bonteheuwel officials

A member of the Funky Gangsters, and a rival from the Fancy Boys gang both lost their lives in shootings – the latter of which involved an exchange of fire with police officers. However, no condolences have been offered by the local ward councillor.

Angus McKenzie, Bonteheuwel’s elected representative, said that the Cape Town suburb will now ‘breathe a sigh of relief’ following the pair’s deaths. Police have since released more information on each matter:

  • On Saturday morning, the body of a known ‘Funky Gangster’ was found covered with a blanket in Vaalbos Street.
  • Later on, police on visible patrol in a known gangland hotspot in Loganberry Street were shot at.
  • Police returned fire on an individual, who was shot dead during the exchange of gunshots.
  • The deceased was later identified as a convicted murderer and known ‘Fancy Boys’ gang member.
  • IPID will now investigate the fatal shooting, but it’s hoped the cop who pulled the trigger will remain in the clear.

McKenzie has also issued a statement, arguing that ‘the wages of sin are death’. He also praised local law enforcement agencies for working together, and pressuring gangsters into ‘eliminating themselves’. The councillor has certainly made his feelings clear…

“Bonteheuwel will breathe a sigh of some relief this evening after two known gangsters were killed in Bonteheuwel. The wages of sin is death and as we continue our pressure on gangsters in the area they will continue to eliminate themselves.”

“Our Law Enforcement agencies must be commended for working together. SAPS, Law Enforcement, Metro and our Neighborhood Watch are working overtime to continue making Bonteheuwel a safer community.”
