City of Cape Town MayCo Member attacked in Milnerton – suspect wounded

A City of Cape Town MayCo member faced an attack in Milnerton, prompting the intervention of the City’s Safety and Security VIP Unit.

A City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee (MayCo) member came under attack in Milnerton on Wednesday, 24 May. The City’s Safety and Security VIP Unit intervened.

Swift Response by VIP Unit

The vehicle transporting Rob Quintas, the MayCo Member for Urban Mobility, was attacked in Joe Slovo, Phoenix, in Milnerton.

Cape Town MayCo Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, said the VIP Unit were compelled to use their firearms when protecting Quintas.

Case to be opened with Milnerton SAPS after the attack on Quintas

“A wounded suspect was arrested and is receiving medical care,” said Smith. He said he was relieved that the City’s VIP Unit stopped the attack on Quintas.

The City intends to open a case with the Milnerton South African Police Service (SAPS). As of 17:03, the scene was still considered active.
