Fatal shooting: Two-year-old boy KILLED in Cape Town

Cape Town Police are probing the fatal shooting of a two-year-old boy in Belhar, Cape Town, which they suspect was related to gang violence

A tragic story coming from Cape Town: A two-year-old boy has died after being shot in the head. According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Western Cape, the shooting occurred on Monday evening, 27 December, in Belhar.

It is believed that the child was inside his house at the time of the shooting.

Cape Town Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the little boy’s shooting. SAPS spokesperson FC Van Wyk says the crime could have been related to gang violence, which as many people know, is one of the major problems affecting the city.

Van Wyk says medics attended to the boy as soon as they got word of the Belhar shooting, but nothing could be done to save him.

“According to reports Belhar police members received a complaint of a shooting at the above address from radio control. At the scene the victim was already taken to the fire station for medical attention. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his face. An ambulance personnel declared him deceased. Motive for the shooting is suspected to be a gang related”

No arrests have been made yet and police have called on members of the public who may have information that is relevant to the case, to call them on 08600 10111.

Belhar community members have voiced their anger over the child’s death and are urging law enforcement to see to it that the perpetrators are brought to book. It has been reported that in a similar incident, a teenager was shot and killed in Lavender Hill. Police are yet to confirm the incident.

In July 2021, a shooting which also occurred in Belhar, claimed the life of a three-year-old boy. Several cases of teenagers in the area being shot dead have also been reported over the past few months.
