Bookshelf collapse claims life of three-year-old boy at Gauteng creche

A three-year-old boy has tragically died after a bookshelf allegedly collapsed on him at the Little Ashford ECD Centre in Bedfordview.

Three-year-old killed at creche after a bookshelf fell on him a creche in Bedfordview, Gauteng, on Tuesday, 7 March. The provincial education MEC will visit the school on Wednesday.

BOY DIES AFTER BOOKSHELF FALLS ON HIM

The incident occurred at Little Ashford ECD Centre. According to the education department, a bookshelf collapsed on the boy, and he succumbed to his injuries.

“We wish to convey our condolences to the family, friends and the schooling community,” said MEC Malome Chiloane.

Chiloane will visit Little Ashford ECD Centre at 12:30 on Wednesday to better understand the circumstances that led to the boy’s death.

SAPS INVESTIGATING

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng are investigating the matter. The cause of the bookshelf collapse is not yet known.

According to SABC News, the family is demanding answers, and they said they had received a lot of conflicting reports. The boy’s uncle, Thabo Mdluli, said the family is devastated.
