A man in Mumbai, India is counting his lucky stars after managing to narrowly avoid death by an oncoming train. The train was speeding past a railroad that the man was crossing on his bike and missed him by just inches, Daily Mail reports.

That nail-biting close call was captured on security camera footage on Saturday, 12 February 2022. It shows the man, whose identity remains unknown, navigating his bike across the railway in Maharashtra. He then slams his brakes, presumably because he sees the locomotive approaching and realises he won’t cross the railway in time before turning into mincemeat.

The train smashes the man’s bike into pieces, but he manages to come out without a scratch. Towards the end of the clip, the motorist, obviously shaken by the incident, staggers to his feet and walks back over the rail crossing while bystanders look on in utter shock.

The footage has been widely shared on social media and people have reacted to it with shock.

“I see no signals or bars coming down at this crossing other than a train flying though what appeared to be a busy walk way with pedestrian,” said one Twitter user.

“Gosh, only one barrier, where’s the other one.  Don’t violate the barrier, wait,” remarked another.

In September 2021, a woman in the Netherlands also managed to avoid death after crossing in front of a passing train. The operator of the train had released the footage as a warning for commuters to be more careful.

“It’s too bad that we couldn’t have contact with her. This is just ridiculous behaviour and it happens quite a lot in the Netherlands – around 160 times a year near stations or railway crossings,” a spokesperson for the rail operator is quoted as having said.
