The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD has issued a notice that it has closed one of the connecting roads into the CBD due to a shooting incident that took place in the area on Monday morning.

Police in Johannesburg has ramped up their presence in the city due to increased activity on Monday morning.

What’s happening in Braamfontein near Queen Elizabeth bridge?

Scores of supporters have been expected to make the passage from the CBD to Parktown where former president, Jacob Zuma is due to testify at the state capture inquiry for the entire week.

However, JMPD officials have cordoned off Bertha Street in Braamfontein, between Queen Elizabeth Bridge and De Korte Street due to a crime scene investigation.

It is not clear, at this point, what has transpired in the area. The only information available is that there was a shooting incident. No injuries or fatalities have been reported.

Furthermore, it has not been established if this incident has, in any way, been fuelled by the increasing activity between the CBD and Parktown.

This is a developing story and more updates will be provided as the information trickles in.
