Botswana to crack down on SA tour operators using the k-word

Botswana’s minister of labour and home affairs has had enough of racist South African tour operators referring to the Batswana as k*****s, and will be prosecuting and deporting anyone found guilty in future.

You’d think in this day and age it would be a given that you don’t refer to black people as k*****s, but apparently not. Some South African tour operators have been throwing the word around willy nilly, to the point that the Botswana government had to step in.

Minister of labour and home affairs, Edwin Bashu, warned South Africans operating inside Botswana that, should they continue to degrade and impair the dignity of the Batswana, they would be charged and deported.

Batshu added that crimen injura is a prosecutable crime back in SA and South African tourism operators in Botswana won’t get away with it.

“We have received several reports from Batswana workers in the tourism sector in the Okavango Delta area who are routinely called k****rs and referred to in other f-words by their employers. Any expatriate found to be responsible for this will face the relevant criminal charges and deportation soon after prosecution,” Batshu said.

He added that the k-word was considered hate speech and degrading in Botswana and is punishable by law.

How embarrassing; that some South Africans have made such a bad impression abroad that a government has to step in. Sies!
