Man stoned to death after the body of a missing girl was discovered in his house

Community members in mobilised and allegedly killed a man after discovering the body of a missing girl who was reported missing.

A man has allegedly been stoned to death by community members at Motlolo village under the Driekop policing area after discovering a decomposing body of a 13-year-old girl who was reported missing.

The incident happened on Tuesday, 28 March 2023.

MISSING GIRL’S BODY FOUND

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), Kabelo Malatji reportedly left home on Friday, 24 March 2023, intending to attend extra classes at a nearby school but never returned home.

An immediate search for the victim was conducted by relatives and surrounding villages without success. On Monday, 27 March 2023, the decomposing body of Kabelo was reportedly found inside the house of the 39-year-old male victim, identified as Calbin Mohlala, after an unpleasant odour was apparently detected by neighbours who immediately informed the police.

Spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said upon arrival, police forced entry and found the lifeless body of the teenager in a decomposed state and a murder case was opened at Driekop police station.

COMMUNITY TAKES MATTER INTO ITS OWN HANDS

Mojapelo said afterwards, the community members mobilised to locate the man in whose house the body was found. He was discovered while hiding in the same village and stoned to death at about 19:00.

“Police were called, and on arrival at the scene, they found the victim with severe wounds. He was later declared dead by the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) members,” he said.

A manhunt for the unknown suspects has since been launched.
