Body of man discovered near canefield in Blackburn, KwaZulu-Natal

The body of a man in his fifties was found near a canefield in Blackburn in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday morning.

NO VISUAL TRAUMA WAS FOUND

Reaction Unit SA (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram said the body of an unidentified man was discovered on an unpaved road.

“Farmworkers made the discovery and contacted RUSA at approximately 07:14.

“RUSA members were immediately dispatched to the location which is in the vicinity of Sibaya Casino,” Balram said.

WHAT WAS FOUND?

He said on arrival, a pillow was discovered next to the man’s body, estimated to be in his late fifties.

“An empty packet containing residue believed to be Methamphetamine and an empty beer bottle was also found next to him. There was no visual trauma to his body except for bruising on his abdomen,” he said.

Balram added that details surrounding his death had not been confirmed at this stage.

Meanwhile, a body of a murdered man was found in a drain in Cottonlands, KwaZulu-Natal, on Wednesday morning.

THE BODY WAS FOUND IN A PRONE POSITION

According to Balram, a passerby discovered the body.

“A passerby who was on his way to work made the discovery. He then contacted us at approximately 06:39.

“On arrival, the officers and paramedics found the man lying in a prone position. He was stabbed multiple times on his buttocks, lower back, and legs. His body was in a state of Rigor Mortis,” Balram said.

Rigor mortis is the medical term for what happens to a body after death — its muscles and joints become very stiff.

THE IDENTITY OF THE MAN IS NOT YET KNOWN

He added the identity of the man and the motive for the murder had not been established at this stage.

Police could not yet confirm the two murders or provide more details on the attacks.
