Man’s body with a deep wound found floating in a Limpopo dam

Police are seeking information regarding a body of a man which was found floating in a dam in Ga-Chuene in Limpopo.

Police in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo are investigating a case of murder after community members discovered a man’s body floating in the dam at Ga-Chuene village on Thursday, 6 October. 

Members of the South African Police Service Search and Rescue Unit were activated and upon arrival  at the scene, they retrieved the body. 

The deceased was identified as37-year-old Ananias Sithole from Thokgwaneng Village in Lebowakgomo.


According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said a deep wound on the man’s neck indicated that he was murdered.  

Ledwaba said police have opened a case of murder and currently the motive is unknown and there have been no arrests yet.

Police have appealed to anyone with information that can assist in the arrest of the suspect(s) to contact the Branch Commander Colonel Nyamanyawo Thomas Baloyi on 0825658234 or the crime stop number 0860010111or the nearest police station or MySAPSApp.

The incident comes after the SAPS Search and Rescue Unit, managed to retrieve the body of a 26-year-old man who had drowned in the Thiergarten farm dam near Tzaneen in Limpopo recently in a crocodile infested dam.

According to Limpopo police the man and his colleague were busy removing illegal fishing nets left behind by poachers who fled the area while being chased by a farmer. The two were using a canoe without life jackets and in the process one of the nets caught a crocodile. While they were pulling the nets, the crocodile managed to pull away and the canoe capsized and both the farm workers fell into the dam. 

One of them managed to swim out while the other one drowned. The deceased has since been identified as Guidance Manganye from Giyani in Mopani, Limpopo.
