Following a video that went viral online, Minister of Police Bheki Cele has spoken out about his outburst against Action Society’s Ian Cameron.

Cameron and Cele have been the talk of Mzansi since the clip of the minister screaming ‘shut up’ started doing its rounds online. On Friday, 8 July, Cele was present during a Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster briefing.

Cele finally reveals why he told Cameron to shut up

The Minister was questioned about his outburst. Cele explained that 30 organisations were invited to the meeting, but Cameron was not part of those who were asked to attend. Cele said that while Cameron was not invited, he was given the opportunity to speak and did so for some time.

“There was peace, quiet and everybody listened until he (Cameron) finished,”

said Cele.

“He failed to render the same response” – Minister on the viral incident

The Minister explained that he was tasked with standing up and responding to Cameron’s grievances. He stated that the issue was not with what Cameron said.

“He failed to render the same response and the same respect that was given to him as everybody listened. It cannot be you, giving your speech and everybody listens but when people respond, you stand up and bang the table and all that. That’s what happened,”

said Cele.

Cameron was forced out of the meeting by police following this incident.

In related news, it was reported that Police Minister Bheki Cele is still topping the Twitter trends list thanks to his little outburst during a heated exchange at a community engagement in Gugulethu, Cape Town recently.

Cele lost his cool with Ian Cameron, a director of community safety at Action Society after he strongly criticised the minister and his department for failing to address crime in the country adequately.

“And I’m not going to take any nonsense of somebody who regards me as a garden boy today because you regard me as a garden boy. You come here… Shut up! Shut up! I sat here, I listened to you talking nonsense. Listen! It’s your time to listen! Sit down and listen young man, or get out,” Cele told Cameron. Read the full story here.
