A beloved florist from Tongaat was found in a pool of blood with his throat slit in his home on Tuesday afternoon.

HE WAS FOUND BY HIS NEPHEW ON TUESDAY

According to Reaction Unit SA (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram, the 76-year-old Krishna Govender was discovered lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit at his Crest Road, Watsonia residence.

“We received a call for assistance at approximately 19:08 after Govender’s body was discovered by his nephew lying on the floor of his bedroom at his Tongaat home.

“Reaction Officers and paramedics were immediately dispatched to the property. On arrival, it was established that Govender’s nephew arrived from work and found the security gate and front door unlocked,” Balram said.

IT WAS A GRUESOME DISCOVERY

The nephew entered the residence and made the gruesome discovery.

“It could not be confirmed at this stage if the elderly male was deceased or severely injured.

“Paramedics entered the residence and found Govender covered in a blanket with a mattress placed over him. Upon examination, his throat was found to be slit,” he said.

GOVENDER WAS COVERED IN A BLANKET WITH A MATTRESS PLACED OVER HIM

According to Balram, Govender was declared dead on the scene.

“He showed no signs of life and was declared deceased. Blood splatter was discovered on the walls of the bedroom. A blood-soaked pillow and blanket was also found in the bedroom. The residence appeared to be ransacked,” Balram said.

HE WAS DECLARED DEAD ON THE SCENE

Balram said Govender, popularly known as Uncle George, was a self-employed florist for nearly 30 years.

The motive for the brutal murder was not yet clear.
