Babes Wodumo assault: Charges against Mampintsha withdrawn

It seems that Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo has gotten away with assaulting his girlfriend and fellow Gqom artist, Bongekile “Babes Wodumo” Simelane.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) revealed that, four months after the incident that went viral on social media, the matter has officially been stricken off the roll.

Babes Wodumo and Mampintsha are a couple again

The couple has exhibited strange behaviour since they filed assault charges against each other, in response to mounting pressure from fans who wanted justice for Babes who was seen on an Instagram Live feed, being attached by Mampintsha.

Mampintsha has maintained his innocence, chalking up his abhorrent actions to self-defence.

In a bizarre turn of events, the two were seen re-enacting the entire assault incident in a music video taken from Mampintsha’s song, Khona Iy’ngane Lay’ndlini.

Mind you, all of this happened while the respective cases between these two were ongoing. Babes also faced an additional assault charge for allegedly beating up a woman on the same night she was supposedly recovering from her injuries that were inflicted by Mampintsha.

However, fortunately, the matter between her and the woman was settled out of court. It appears that this case too, a violent display of domestic abuse, was also laid to rest.

Why the case against Mampintsha has been withdrawn

According to the NPA, the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court heard submissions from Babes’ attorneys that she was pleased with the outcomes of the Alternative Dispute Resolution process the two embarked on three months ago.

It is believed that their participation in couples counselling at Families South Africa has yielded positive results, and the prosecuting authority has had no other choice but to oblige with the wishes of Babes, who indicated that she was ready to withdraw the charges and continue seeing Mampintsha romantically.

So, there you have it, folks. Babes and Mampintsha are back together and can finally move on with their lives without the threat of jail time hanging over the Big Nuz heavyweight.
