The University of Cape Town (UCT) is in the process of suspending Arthur Mabentsela, who’s highly disturbing Facebook post caused an uproar on Tuesday.

The Engineering lecturer went on a social media tirade where he spoke up against #MenAreTrash while, in the process, launching an attack on women and calling them all sorts of derogatory names.

What also caught even more attention was a follow-up post – which has since been removed – where he interacts with a friend, revealing that he had thought of raping and killing his own two-year-old daughter in the past.

“Some of these men are suffering from depression, some of these men are scared to the point that they do these acts,” he said.

“Nono when I was depressed I had thoughts of raping my own 2yr old (sic). I wanted to kill her. I saw nothing in her. There was no love.”

UCT to act against lecturer

UCT has since issued out a statement addressing the matter, saying it’s working towards suspending Mabentsela.

The institution’s spokesperson Gerda Kruger was quoted by News24 saying the matter is being dealt with urgently.

“We have introduced due process to look into the matter and we will ensure the matter is properly investigated and dealt with.”

Kruger sympathised with those offended by the post, saying the reaction it caused was completely understandable.
