MAKHURA CALLS FOR INCREASED RESTRICTIONS AS GAUTENG ENTERS ITS THIRD WAVE

On Friday, shortly afer the inspection visit at the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital, Makhura said Gauteng had officially entered its third wave.

“It’s only when we deal with the containment of COVID19 will we be able to reignite the Gauteng Economy. Since the start of this week, the number of cases in the province has doubled. As Gauteng, we have now arrived at the third wave. Stay Safe. Protect yourself and those around,” he said.

He then went on to say that the Gauteng government wants to see an increase in restrictions.

“We want to see increased restrictions in Gauteng. The number of people getting infected is too high. The situation is not normal and requires us to respond effectively,” he added.

From Monday, the Gauteng government will be vaccinating the elderly and will be in a township in the West Rand to monitor those vaccinations.

“We need to make a concerted effort to provide support to districts that need government support. Let us all stay safe and avoid large gatherings,” he said.
