Andile Ramaphosa: Bosasa exec confirms they gave president’s son R500k

It’s a big fish, alright. The state capture inquiry has heard another bombshell on Tuesday, as Bosasa executives confirm they did pay Andile Ramaphosa R500 000.

Sound the alarm, because the state capture inquiry has just produced another golden nugget of testimony. Former Bosasa executive Peet Venter has told the commission that Andile Ramaphosa did indeed receive a R500 000 windfall from the corrupt security services company.

Details of the Andile Ramaphosa deal with Bosasa

For the past few months, Ramaphosa Jnr has been under intense scrutiny for an alleged payment that made its way into his bank account from Bosasa. The money was then used to support the CR17 campaign, which ushered Cyril Ramaphosa in as the new ANC leader in December 2017.

The Democratic Alliance got wind of this deal late last year and asked the president to come clean on the matter. When he stumbled over his answer and then revised it the week after, suspicions began to swirl.

Although Forensics For Justice claimed that there was no wrongdoing on Andile Ramaphosa’s part, the issue is still a major concern. Venter revealed that the backhander came from Gavin Watson’s personal account – the Bosasa CEO has been implicated in almost every bribe and illegal deal the company had previously agreed to.

Angelo Agrizzi returns to the hot-seat

The second-coming of Bosasa’s dodgy executives has already proved to be just as blockbuster as round one. We’ve previously seen former kingpin of the operation Angelo Agrizzi drop his colleagues in it left, right and centre, as well as some of the more “connected” political figures.

Agrizzi’s testimony revealed that Jacob Zuma, Nomvula Mokonyane and Vincent Smith were among the “captured” ANC members who received bribes from Bosasa’s infamous vaults. He did not mention anything about Andile Ramaphosa, but the former COO may have more bombs to drop this week.

He is due to appear at the state capture inquiry to explain more about the business’ corrupt practices. Agrizzi has since been charged with corruption and has a court date coming up later in the year. If he continues to sing like a canary, he could be joined in the dock by the president’s son.
