ANC Youth League supports Hlaudi Motsoeneng and ‘new’ SABC

Looks like the ruling party is having trouble keeping its subsidiaries in check, especially since the mother-party spoke out strongly against censorship and what’s going on at the SABC.

The Youth League has labelled the attacks on the SABC ‘acts of cowardice’, while the ANC itself has taken a more firm stance on the collapsing public broadcaster.

The SABC’s COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng a few months ago started a campaign of censorship and obfuscation at the taxpayer-funded national broadcaster, which has led to political and civil partnerships alike berating him and the organisation.

Even so, the ANC Youth League has come out in support – one of the only organisations to do so – of censorship rules imposed at the broadcaster, who has also gone on a suspension spree of journalists who speak out against censorship at the SABC.

The Youth League added that the SABC shouldn’t come under pressure from outside parties when disciplining its employees – well, that’s kindof why we have labour laws, the CCMA and unions now isn’t it… or is it that those tools are only useful when being used by the Youth League themselves as political mechanisms? –.

“We want to request that the SABC should not feel pressure in dealing with whoever is involved even if the person is an associate of the brother of person who use to be Head of State.”
