The ANC Eastern Cape confirmed that it has suspended several disgruntled members who marched on the Buffalo City Metro (BCM) over the alleged manipulation of branch membership figures.

According to spokesperson Oscar Mabuyane, ANC stalwart and former Bhisho MPL Joe Jordan, who led the march, is amongst those suspended.

Mabuyane said in an interview with News24 that the members are “being subjected to a disciplinary process”.

According to News24, the members were accused of bringing the party into disrepute, and accused them of holding “their own election parallel to that of the ANC”.

“They called themselves a leadership and led their own elections parallel to our regional elections. The process is unfolding. We are instilling discipline. We can’t allow individual members to hold the ANC to ransom,” he said.

Jordan and other ANC members marched against the BCM ANC regional executive committee in August.

Eastern Cape newspaper, the Daily Dispatch, reported that Jordan had said the march was a last resort to get attention after filing several disputes with the ANC structures over manipulation of branch membership figures to favour a certain faction
