ANC joins talks of new GLOBAL ORDER in Russia

The ANC delegation led by Obed Bapela arrived in Russia on Thursday and is expected to stay until Sunday evening.

The ANC announced on Saturday that they sent senior officials to Russia to discuss the “recalibration of the global order” with President Vladimir Putin’s party.

ANC INVITED BY ITS ‘LONGSTANDING ALLY AND FRIEND’

“The visit follows an invitation from United Russia Party, Russia’s largest political party and a longstanding ally and friend to the ANC,” the party said in a statement.

“The engagements… will include discussions on the recalibration of the global order to reverse the consequences of neo-colonialism and the previously prevailing unipolar world.”

The ANC delegation is led by Obed Bapela, who heads the ANC’s international relations committee. He arrived on Thursday and is expected to stay until Sunday.

In February, South Africa hosted a controversial joint military exercise with Russia and China, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov paid an official visit to Pretoria in January.

The country will also host a BRICS summit in August.

SU PROFESSOR ON THE MILITARY DRILLS

As previously reported, Stellenbosch University’s military sciences professor Francois Vrey said that in light of the vote, South Africans should be critical of the military drills.

Vrey said that this plays out against a political backdrop and that the navy are only instruments of policy.

“If people are very critical of this, they should be very critical about the political decision to do this, and that the navy’s under military professionalism they go where their political heads decide,” he added.

He said South Africa could also have been more critical of the war by Russia.
