ANC Elective Conference 2017: Oros’ shirt of many colours causes stir

And the winner for the petty awards is…

ANC Youth League

Apart from taking part in the main business of the day, ANC Youth Leader Collen Maine showed up to the party’s elective conference also looking to make the biggest fashion statement.

While most delegates did not stray too far from the usual colours of the party, the man known as Oros sported pretty much the same colours but a closer look at his top revealed a few interesting details.

His shirt paid tribute to past leaders of the ANCYL with their images scattered around its logo… well, except for one.

The most striking detail in Maine’s shirt of many colours was the deliberate swipe at his predecessor, Julius Malema who’s image was missing and his name replaced with the text “Expelled 2008”. It was quite clear that the very purpose of this particular garment was to troll the founding leader of the EFF.

Because of how loud the shirt was, one could not help but inspect it even closer and, alongside famous ANC stalwarts such as Nelson Mandela and Anton Lembede there was a massive faux pas as the rather familiar face of late PAC leader Robert Sobukwe managed to find its way into this top.

It was a case of mistaken identity as Sobukwe’s likeness was placed under Ashby Mda’s the name, a founder of the youth league who served as its leader after Lembede’s death in 1947.

You would think that was all, but there was further embarrassment for Oros as his tribute to yet another ANCYL stalwart fell flat on its face when he misspelt Peter Mokaba’s name.

If fashion police were present, Maine would have found himself with a solid case against him as his attempt at trolling Malema backfired, and rather embarrassingly so.
