ANC are prepared to oust Zuma as president ‘before 2018’ – party sources

Some ANC members are confident that December ANC Electives will force an early Zuma exit

The ANC are hosting electives to nominate their next president to succeed JZ and run in the 2019 elections. Usually, the chosen candidate would not assume their duties until election year; but it seems the party have done some soul-searching.

After surviving eight motions of no confidence, it seems Jacob Zuma’s ninth life will be his last, as some ANC members are now claiming he will be ousted in December.

The camp behind the leadership campaign of Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma have grown increasingly wary of the negative image the ANC have gained due to the president’s actions, and want to distance themselves from him.

When are the ANC Electives?

Dlamini-Zuma (the ex-wife of Jacob Zuma), her team and high-profile supporters are pushing the agenda that the nominated president of the ANC should take the reigns ‘on that same day’ when Monday 18th December comes round.

These calls were echoed by North-West Premier Supra Mahumapelo, who is throwing his weight behind NDZ’s bid for the leadership: He feels that the president’s days are already numbered:

“Stop insisting that President Jacob Zuma must step down. He is left with three months. Ninety-something days. Let him finish his term and bid him farewell.”

“After lunch on December 18 there would be a new president and that president will be a woman and that woman will be Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.”

Who is the favourite to replace Jacob Zuma?

The politics behind a decision to promise a swift #Zumexit is rich with political motivation. Not only will it encourage the growing anti-Jacob Zuma faction in the ANC, but it also serves to undermine Cyril Ramaphosa.

The current Deputy Prime Minister has also hinted at an instant Zuma removal if he was chosen as the ANC’s next president. With Dlamini-Zuma being fancied as the early favourite, this policy will only gain her more admirers.

The president is being shafted by his ex: All’s fair in love and war, isn’t it?
