Police arrested an illegal immigrant who was found with 14 hand grenades (Mk2) in his possession in Stilfontein. Here is the latest.

An illegal immigrant found with 14 hand grenades (Mk2) in his possession in Stilfontein was arrested on Saturday.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh, a police officer working at Public Order Policing (POP) in Klerksdorp, received information of a male in possession of explosives in Extension 6, Khuma Location near Stilfontein.

“Upon following up, the officer found the suspect at the corner of Marumole and Lekoma Street and searched him. A total of 14 hand grenades (Mk2) were found in his possession.
“As a result, the suspect was immediately arrested for unlawfully being in Possession of Explosives, thus contravening Section 128 of the Explosives Act, 1956 (Act No. 26 of 1956). Furthermore, it was established that the suspect is an undocumented person and will be processed in terms of Section 49(1)(b) of the Immigration Act, 2013 (Act No. 13 of 2002).”

Myburgh furthermore said illegal immigrant, a man aged 38, will appear before the Stilfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24 April 2023.
She added that the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation(DPCI), also known as the Hawks, would conduct the investigation.
The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, congratulated the member for his speedy reaction and bravery. He also thanked the community for being the ears and eyes of the police and said that their positive response averted a tragedy.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, a police vehicle was recently caught escorting a DRFITING vehicle with a passenger hanging out of the window through the street of Kuruman in the Northern Cape.

In the video, a South African Police (SAPS) Vehicle is seen driving with flashing lights ahead of a vehicle drifting recklessly across two lanes of traffic.
Police could not yet confirm the incident or provide more information on it.
