The City of Tshwane has gradually phased out its ambulance services to the residents due to the provincialisation of the service.

TSHWANE AMBULANCE CONTRACT TO SERVICE RESIDENTS TO EXPIRE IN MAY

Only five days are left before the emergency services stop serving the residents of the City of Tshwane areas.

The City’s MMC for Community Safety Grandi Theunissen, said the provincialisation of the ambulance services will take full effect from 16 May 2022.

“Going forward the rendering of emergency medical and ambulance services will be carried out by Gauteng EMS and other private services.”

Theunissen said.

CITY OF TSHWANE ONLY MUNICIPALITY RENDERING EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES

Theunissen said the City of Tshwane has been the only municipality in Gauteng rendering emergency medical services.

This since the conclusion of the provincialisation of the service in Gauteng.

During the National State of Disaster, the city’s EMS department was given a temporary license to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, the licence will expire on 15 May 2022 and the city will no longer be able to legally provide this service.

“As such the city has been gradually de-fleeting this service over the last few months. The provincial government will take full responsibility for this area going forward once the temporary license expires.”

Theunissen said.

TSHWANE EMS DEPARTMENT TO ATTEND TO FIRE AND RESCUE INCIDENTS

Tshwane Emergency Services Department will, however, continue to render emergency medical treatment in all fire and rescue-related incidents.

“Emergency medical treatment means to treat and stabilise a patient while awaiting an available ambulance to transport the patient to the nearest healthcare facility.”

Theunissen said.

He said this is done in line with the Fire Brigade Services Act, 1987 (Act 99 of 1987) and the White Paper on Fire Services issued on 20 September 2020.

The City of Tshwane EMS communication centre will divert all emergency medical calls received on their 107 toll-free number. They will divert them to the Provincial EMS, 10177 call centre.

This will be effective from midnight 15 May 2022.
