She might not be president yet, but that certainly doesn’t stop her from speaking her mind; and being the head of the AU commission she’s certainly got some influence.

Dlamini-Zuma, who’s been endorsed by the ANC Women’s League as well as her ex hubby, threw some shade at new US president Donald Trump, saying his presidency is a threat to global progress in women’s rights the fight against climate change.

As a counter measure, she said Africa should push even harder for the AU’s proposed free trade area.

African Union Commission Chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has warned that a Donald Trump’s administration threatened global progress on climate change and women’s rights.

Africa should counter this by establishing the planned continental free trade area this year, she said.

“We seem to be moving towards a multi-polar world as the US under the new administration threatens the consensus on climate change, attack hard-won women’s rights and move towards protectionism,” Dlamini-Zuma said in her last address as AU Commission chair.

“Africa’s only protection in these treacherous global waters is to honour the decision to commence its own Continental Free Trade Area in 2017.”
