Almost a month later, an alleged MUT female student murderer Bongani Sanele Mlambo (28) remains at large without a trace

The alleged MUT female student murderer, Bongani Sanele Mlambo (28), remains at large despite being on the police wanted list.

WHO IS THIS MUT FEMALE STUDENT KILLER?

Mlambo is accused of stabbing to death 23-year-old Xolile Mbatha, a Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) student, on Sunday, 31 July.

In a brief interview with the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Xulu, he told The South African that the suspect had not been arrested yet.

On 31 July at 07:30, Point police were called to a student residence at Mahatma Gandhi Road where Xolile was stabbed.

POLICE REPORT ON THEIR ARRIVAL AT THE SCENE

“Upon arrival at the scene, police found the body of a woman with multiple stab wounds on the body. She was certified dead at the scene.”

The victim was identified as Xolile Mbatha. A case of murder was opened at Point SAPS.

Following this, a warrant of arrest was issued for Bongani Sanele Mlambo (28) but his current whereabouts are unknown.

Xolile was a final year Electrical Engineering student at the time of her untimely demise. She was laid to rest in her home town of Umsinga, north of the province.

LEADS NEEDED BY THE POLICE TO APPREHEND THE SUSPECT

Acting Chancellor and Principal of MUT, M.M Ramagole, who expressed pain and disbelief following the incident, appealed to the institution to cooperate with the police.

“We appeal to staff, students and the public to cooperate with the police and to come forward if they have any information that could help in the investigation.”

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala reiterated.
“We appeal to anyone who may have information regarding the whereabouts of the wanted suspect attached in the picture to contact the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Xulu on 031 367 4012/ 082 720 9592 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Anonymous tip-offs can also be communicated via MySAPS App,” she urged.
