Defence lawyer in the Senzo Meyiwa trial, Advocate Malesela Teffo has been granted R10 000 bail by the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court.

Malesela was arrested on Thursday afternoon inside the Pretoria High Court shortly after it adjourned. He spent one night at the Hillbrow police station in Johannesburg.

ADVOCATE TEFFO SPEAKS OUT

Malesela represents four of the five accused in the Senzo Meyiwa trial. He is well know for representing victims of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in cases. This has reportedly made him enemies with certain officials within the SAPS.

Speaking after his bail hearing, Teffo said after suffering so much embarrassment in front of the whole world, he will  regain his strength.

“I am not broken, instead I am more determined than ever because I know why this happened,” he said.

When asked whether he still thinks Bheki Cele is behind his arrest, Teffo said “It’s a lot…A number of agencies are involved, the NPA, SAPS. I can not single out individuals from these agencies but there are senior officials who are giving orders that are taken and considered serious.”

Teffo said he still needs guidance from his lawyers, however, in due time he will address the media because he can’t remain silent after what happened.

Speaking on eNCA just hours after the incident, Police Minister Bheki Cele says he knew nothing about the allegation made by Advocate Malesela Teffo and was informed by his spokesperson Lirandzu Temba who called him.

“Absolutely, I know nothing about it and I have requested the National Commissioner to find out what happened and give me a report. I think that is the only time that I will speak about the matter.”
