ACDP wants Parliament inquiry into EFF’s “disgraceful” conduct

While the ACDP joined five other parties in condemning the EFF at the time, the party now wants parliament to conduct an enquiry as well.

The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) were not impressed by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) behaviour in parliament during Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan’s budget vote debate.

ACDP condemns EFF

The ACDP is of the firm belief that no matter how strongly you disagree with another’s political views, the discourse should remain professional.

“The ACDP condemns in the strongest possible terms the disgraceful conduct by members of the EFF during the budget vote on public enterprises on Thursday afternoon,” ACDP whip Steve Swart said in a statement.

“While parties may differ politically and engage in robust debate, the conduct displayed and the threatening attitude adopted towards Gordhan was deeply concerning.”

Bullying tactics

They believe the conduct of the firebrand EFF presents a danger to parliament as failing to discipline them would set a dangerous precedent of allowing bullying tactics in the government forum.

“This, as our nation already has so many critical issues to which Parliament must attend, including state capture and corruption in state-owned companies and the impact this has had on our economy,” Swart continued.

“It is disgraceful that the EFF members tried to prevent Mr Gordhan from addressing these issues. Thankfully, they did not succeed. The ACDP calls on Parliament to conduct a full inquiry into the matter and to hold all those involved to account.”

EFF ejected from Parliament

The EFF was ejected from Parliament earlier in the week after causing disruptions during Gordhan’s presentation.

They believe he should not be allowed to address parliament, or indeed hold office, because of adverse findings against him by Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

The ACDP was joined by five other political parties in condemning the actions of the EFF.

While the word controversy has become synonymous with Julius Malema’s party, many felt that they had finally taken one step to far this time around.
