The ABC Motsepe League play-offs between Orbit College from North West and Msinga United from KwaZulu-Natal was nothing ‘shot’ of a dramatic spectacle.

BEAUTIFUL GAME RUINED BY MSINGA FANS

Held at Harry Gwala Stadium today, the beautiful game which turned ugly, saw the two ABC Motsepe League teams give it their all in order to earn a promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, formerly known as the Glad Africa Championship or National First Division. However, the TVET students seemed to be more hungry after they netted the only goal to advance in the promotional play-offs.

This well-attended spectacle saw fans from Umsinga travel to the Capital City (Pietermaritzburg) to show support for their homeboys; however, when the ending wasn’t favourable, some fans caused a ruckus at the stadium by hurling bottles inside the pitch. This was not all as the uncontrollably angry fans went to open fire in the stadium causing extreme danger to those who were in attendance.

OFFICIALS SHIELD THEMSELVES AFTER PLAY-OFFS

It is reported that officials and players had to run for safety after security personnel at the stadium also retaliated.
It is also reported that the police were summoned to intervene and restore order in the stadium.

A SAFA official at the stadium described the incident as unfortunate and regrettable during an interview with 1KZNTV

“We don’t like it and we condemn it, and we are not going to tolerate such a behaviour.”

ACTION TO BE TAKEN BY ABC MOTSEPE LEAGUE OFFICIALS

“What is going to happen is we will collect a report from the referee and security personnel, and the team is going to be charged and we will make sure it appears before the DC for their behaviour,” the SAFA official said, adding that they have no choice but to report the incident because if ignored it might become a trend.
