A 13-year-old boy died in a tragic shooting incident after apparently gaining access to his father’s firearm in Northern Cape.

THE 13-YEAR-OLD BOY REPORTEDLY GAINED ACCESS TO HIS FATHER’S FIREARM

According to a report by AfriNuus, the 13-year-old Symington van Deventer was found dead in his home on Tuesday after allegedly gaining access to his father’s firearm.

According to Timothy Sam, police spokesperson in the Northern Cape, this tragic incident took place in Sutherland and the boy was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

THE TRAGIC INCIDENT HAPPENED IN SUTHERLAND

An investigation has been launched to determine whether the law on firearms management has been breached.

The police will reportedly also investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, and a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

A MEMORIAL WILL TAKE PLACE NEXT WEEK

The memorial service for Symington will take place on March 25 at 11:00 on the Bankdrif farm.
