80-year-old suspect arrested for last year’s murder

An 80-year-old senior citizen is due in court next week following his arrest for a murder he allegedly committed last year

An 80-year-old male suspect was arrested at Sharlock, Low’s Creek outside Nelspruit in connection with the murder that happened last year.

80-YEAR-OLD SUSPECT NABBED 12 MONTHS LATER

According to the police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the arrest was made this afternoon, Friday 04 November 2022.
“An 80-year old male suspect was arrested at Sharlock, Low’s Creek outside Nelspruit in connection with the murder of Mr Zwelithini Dlamini who was murdered at the age of 49,” Colonel Mdhluli confirmed.

“The victim was shot and killed at his home at Matsulu near Nelspruit in the evening of 04 January 2021.”

According to the information, after Dlamini was murdered a team of investigators was assembled to probe the case.

“The members worked tirelessly and spent sleepless nights with the hope to solve the case. The arrest of the suspect, who is a prominent figure in the community came as a breakthrough into the said murder case,” he added.

MURDER ACCUSED SENIOR CITIZEN DUE IN COURT

Mdhluli further said the suspect is expected to appear at the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 07 November 2022 facing a murder charge.

The investigation is still ongoing and more details will unfold as the investigation continues.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has welcomed the arrest and appreciated the team for their hard work which led to the breakthrough.

Meanwhile, in Thaba Nchu police were summoned to a place near Tiger River Trust where the body of an unknown African male was found.
On Tuesday, 01 November 2022 at about 11:40, Thaba Nchu police were called to an open space near Tiger River Trust and on arrival, they found the burnt body of a man.

“The victim is an African male who is +/- 30 years old and has a tattoo of a heart on the left leg under the kneecap. He had no other form of identification on him.”
