Gauteng MEC of Education Panyaza Lesufi will launch the online admissions applications for Grade 1 and 8 pupils on Friday.

The MEC presented the application process for the 2023 academic year at Jeppe High School for Boys on Thursday.

Lesufi will be visiting Mohlakeng Recreation Centre on Friday to assist parents in applying on the system. He will also be at a local library to monitor operations as parents will also be assisted at libraries when applications open.

1. When do I apply?

Applications open on Friday, 22 July at 8:00. They will close on Friday, 19 August at midnight.

All schools will remain open and accessible on the system for applications during the application period. This means that no school will disappear from the system during the application period.

Placement of pupils will be based on admission criteria. In addition, pupils will be placed based on the availability of spaces in line with the school’s capacity.

The placement period is expected to take place between Monday, 3 October 2022 to Monday 30 October 2022.

2. How do I apply online?

Parents and guardians should visit www.gdeadmissions.gov.za from 08:00 on Friday, 22 July. Applicants will have to create an account on the website to receive credentials to access the online application system.

It is important that parents provide one reliable cellphone number. This is so that they can receive important SMS notifications regarding the application process. Every step of the application process will be confirmed via SMS for security and verification purposes. Parents must ensure that they apply to at least three schools.

The 2023 online admissions will follow a single application process. This means parents can do all applications at the same time during the application period.

3. How do I increase the chances of admission in my area?

To ensure your child goes to a school closer to home, parents are encouraged to use their home address within the school feeder zone application option. This is to see schools with feeder zones that cover the home address.

To increase the chances of placement closer to the parent’s home address, parents should select schools with feeder zones that cover the home address. They should apply to a minimum of three and a maximum of five schools for each learner.

Parents cannot make more than one application for one learner to the same school. Remember to read and accept the terms and conditions.

5. What if I don’t have access to the internet to apply?

Parents who have no access to the internet or the required application resources can visit any one of the 48 decentralised walk-in centres. These are located across 15 education districts where officials will assist with applications. These include some district offices and Gauteng department of education’s head office.

In addition, 105 libraries will also be available to assist parents to apply. The list of available walk-in centres and libraries is available on the Gauteng department of education’s website, social media platforms and district offices.
