There has been much buzz following Oxford Dictionaries’ decision to make the “Face with Tears of Joy” emoji 2015’s Word of the Year.
This is the first time Oxford Dictionaries’ ‘Word of the Year’ has not been, well, a word.
According to the experts over at Oxford Dictionaries, the emoji “embodies a core aspect of living in a digital world that is visually driven, emotionally expressive, and obsessively immediate”. Angry proponents of the English language have been particularly vocal on Twitter about this outrageous decision.
