The new BMW M3 Touring has quickly become one of the most highly rated performance cars in recent memory. Watch it take on the Audi RS 6 in a drag race.

In June 2022 BMW unveiled the first-ever production M3 Touring. Underneath the practical Touring body it housed all the good bits from the M3 and M4: the 375kW and 650Nm version of the 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

THE M3 TOURING LOOKS PURPOSEFUL AND READY TO POUNCE

The German carmaker says the performance wagon boasts acceleration figures of 3.6 seconds to reach 100km/h from standstill and can sprint from zero to 200km/h in just 12.9 seconds. Opting for the M Driver’s Package increases the electronically limited top speed from 250km/h to 280km/h.

The M3 Touring’s default setting might be four-wheel-drive, but it can be configured to four wheel drive Sport mode via the Setup menu. BMW says this provides an even more intense experience of the M xDrive system’s rear-biased tuning. Switching off DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) brings two wheel drive mode – pure rear-wheel drive – into play.

In this cool video, we see the new M3 Touring line up against the reigning champion of fast wagons: the Audi RS 6. It has 441kW and 800Nm of torque. It is powered by a 4.0 TFSI V8 engine and uses a mild-hybrid system (MHEV) with a 48-volt main electrical system. The RS 6’s power is transmitted to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive via the standard eight-speed tiptronic.

Carwow says: “So what do you think – will the BMW’s weight advantage be enough to snatch the win? Or will Quattro AWD seal it in these damp conditions? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!”
