You’ve seen the new Lamborghini Revuelto at the Nurburgring, now let’s talk about the fastest EV in the world: the 1 427 kW Rimac Nevera. As summer takes hold and the weather improves in Europe, more carmakers are taking to the famed proving ground to test and prepare for lap-record attempts.

The Tesla Model S Plaid Track Package has just captured the EV lap record this past week. As reported by Motor Authority and filmed by our friends at CarSpyMedia, the Rimac Nevera has been out preparing for a track record, too.

RIMAC NEVERA

Let’s not forget that Rimac set an astonishing 23 world records with the Nevera back April 2023. They include the production vehicle record for the fastest zero to 100 km/h sprint time: 1.74 seconds.

The fastest quarter-mile sprint time: 8.25 seconds. The fastest standing-mile time: 20.59 seconds. And the fastest zero to 100 km/h to zero time: 3.99 seconds. How unwell did the test drive fell after that? Now the lap records are on the list.

IT HAS NOTHING TO PROVE

The test driver isn’t pushing the electric hypercar anywhere near its limits in this video but don’t forget that’s because its limits are so incredibly high. Rimac is also reported to be developing an autonomous driving system that can drive the most popular racetracks in world using AI, so this run could’ve been data gathering for that.

Imagine hopping into the passenger seat of something this fast and just letting it take you round? No thanks, when it comes to track driving, we’re control freaks!

WHAT’S THE ‘RING RECORD?

Big, heavy electric vehicles aren’t as quick on tracks as internal combustion cars – especially ones as demanding as the Nurbrurgring – due to the dynamic demands. And as fast the Rimac Nevera is, it still weights 2 300 kg.

It is aiming for an EV lap time 7:25.35 just set by the Tesla Model S Plaid Track Package. A time nearly one minute slower than the production vehicle record of the Mercedes-Benz AMG One: 6:35.183, set in November 2022.

Just 150 examples will be built, and it will set buyers back $2.15 million, or R42 million at the current exchange rate, and the first delivery is said to be going to for F1 World Champion, Nico Rosberg.
