New Stepway will keep Renault one step ahead in SA’s SUV market

The new Sandero Stepway TechRoad offering brings some exciting touches of high-tech to one of Renault’s most popular ranges of SUV.

The SUV segment, because of the flexibility it offers owners, has always been one of the most popular and competitive sectors of the local market. 

For Renault, the Sandero has been a runaway success over the years, racking up almost 50% of the brand’s total sales since it was introduced in 2009. 

It makes sense that the Renault Sandero Stepway Techroad will find plenty of buyers in the local market who will be attracted by the new tech touches and price of R243 900 (including VAT).

According to the manufacturer, the new Trechroad will feature the traditional high ground clearance grand clearance and space beloved of SUVs. In addition, the Techroad features:

Exterior changes:

  • 16-inch, two-tone Flex wheel covers with blue centre caps
  • New badging
  • Gloss black door mirrors
  • Design decals on B-pillars and lower sections of the doors
  • Rear park assist

Interior additions including:

  • Smartphone Mirroring with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
  • An enhanced driving position
  • Front and rear power windows
  • New’ chic upholstery with blue detailing
  • Leather steering wheel and gear knob

The extensive features that have been a mainstay of the range remain.

Sandero Techroad: Under the hood

The Sandero Techroad is powered by a 66kW engine, mated with a manual 5-speed gearbox has a maximum output of 66kW @ 5 250 rpm. The petrol Turbo power plant delivers peak torque of 135Nm at 2 500 rpm of which 90% is available from 1 650rpm. 

Going from 0 to 100kph takes 11.1 seconds, and top speed is 169km/h.

The New Stepway Techroad comes with Renault’s five-year/ 150 000km warranty and a standard two-year/ 30 000km service plan. Services are at 15 000km intervals.
