There’s been a dearth of new cars that genuinely qualify in the rapid station wagon class. But then BMW released the M3 Touring in 2022, and all was right with the world again.

In this video from YouTube channel AutoTopNL, we get to see the rapid station wagon in all its glory in a series of acceleration runs. Then there’s a flat out top-end blast to its top speed.

Rapid station wagon: BMW M3 Touring

Well, let’s remind you the M3 Touring packs 375 kW and 650 Nm of torque from BMW’s ubiquitous twin-turbo 3,0-litre straight-six.

Drive comes through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and xDrive all-wheel-drive putting all that power down all the time. For the hooligans, selectable rear-drive-only mode is available for those skiddy moments.

Thumb through the brochure and BMW claims 0-100 km/h is achievable in 3,6 seconds. But how will it fare in the real world? The restricted top speed is 250 km/h, but that’s no fun when you’ve got an empty autobahn in front of you.

Four-wheel-drive for maximum control

Thankfully this particular car had the M Driver’s Package fitted, which raises the maximum velocity to 280 km/h. Care to hazard a guess at what it can achieve in the real world?

Well, we won’t give it away, but suggestions are that owners of this rapid station wagon will be very happy. Especially if they option the M Driver’s Package. And why wouldn’t you!

Ah, we almost forgot; this is a family estate after all. So, utility space improves to 1510 litres of interior stowage space over the M3 four-door saloon. The M3 Touring weighs 90 kg more than the saloon variant, which is mostly down to the four-wheel-drive system.
