Sant’Agata’s finest: Introducing the Lamborghini Sián Roadster

Have you seen anything like it — in concept or production form? No. It’s Lamborghini’s open-top, V12 hybrid super sports car…and ‘no’ again, you can’t have one.

All 19 exclusive units have already been sold so while you may not be able to get your hands on one of these, it does give us a clue into how Lamborghini sees its future.

Automobili Lamborghini chairperson and chief executive officer Stefano Domenicali said: “The Sián Roadster encapsulates the spirit of Lamborghini. It is the expression of breathtaking design and extraordinary performance, but most importantly embodies important future technologies.”

Lamborghini unveiled the closed-top Sián in late 2019, confirming only 63 units would be built. This open-topped version is even more exclusive and stunning.

Hybrid V12 powertrain technology

We’ve not seen a roadgoing car with this sort of powertrain technology.

The Sián features an uprated version of Lambo’s V12. It’s capable of delivering a gut-punching 577kW at a screaming 8 500rpm. It’s very impressive. But it gets much more impressive when you consider that Lamborghini has combined this V12 with a 48-volt electric motor with supercapacitor technology for what is reported to be the lightest, most powerful system of its kind.

Developed together with MIT University, the super capacitor is said to deliver three times more power and efficiency than a lithium-ion battery unit.

The full power output is an extraordinary 602kW capable of driving the Sián to over 350km/h with a 2.9-second 0 – 100km/h acceleration time. Contrasting that staggering performance, the electric motor is usable for some low-speed applications too, i.e. parking / reversing without any ICE intervention.

Sculpted profile: The ultimate in design

It is undoubtedly the ultimate modern Lamborghini. It’s been crafted using a number of new panel cutting and material-science technology. With active cooling vanes that work according to the temperature from the exhaust system, they’re not just functional, they’re designed into the sculpted profile.

It’s dramatic design is not just inspired by the functional need for maximum downforce or airflow efficiency, but it also celebrates traditional design cues of old models.

It’s an evocative design, with signature Y-shaped head lights and a spectacular hexagonal taillight arrangement.

No two Siáns will be the same, with Lamboghini’s Ad Personam department building these to the specific requirements of clients. The new air vents for example are 3D printed with the customer’s initials embedded.

Debuted here in an exterior colour called Blu Uranus, customers can expect a car with unmatched style. The wheels are Oro Electrum, a colour chosen to complement the car’s electrification. Have you seen anything like it?
