11 August 2022 – Kia and RADA – an acronym for rape, alcohol, drug, abuse – have a long-standing partnership, specifically with assisting girls complete their school education through supporting the RADA MiPad project. Kia has donated more than R170,000 to the organisation in the past 12 months, and further assisted with various other RADA projects.

This year, Kia is once again joining RADA with its fundraising raffle and will be providing a Kia vehicle to the winner while they enjoy a two-night stay at the five-star Tiger Canyon Private Game Reserve, another of RADA’s longstanding partners.

The RADA MiPad project is aimed at empowering girls who so often stay at home when they are menstruating because they do not have access to, or in many cases, the means to buy sanitary wear. With RADA MiPad, which has a life span of up to five years, RADA enables young girls to attend class and complete their schooling. Simultaneously, it aims to create a positive and lasting impact on the lives of young girls by promoting their self-esteem and sense of equality.

“The MiPad project is a game changer”, says Gary Scott, CEO of Kia South Africa, “Education is such a crucial part of our country’s growth and if you’re not in class, you can’t learn. We fully support the RADA MiPad project and hope to see this incredible initiative grow across the country.”

Kia’s support of the RADA MiPad project commenced in 2020, when Kia joined RADA on a visit to the small community of Philippolis in the Free State for the organisation’s very first MiPad handout. One MiPad pack is enough to see a girl through five years of high school and means she will never have to miss a day of school due to lack of sanitary wear, which for some families is unaffordable.

Since the initial handout, RADA has received enough funding to distribute a further 6,933 RADA MiPads. Last year’s fundraising raffle raised enough funds to allow RADA to empower 205 girls by providing them with MiPad packs.

“Our partnership with RADA is not just about providing financial support”, says Christo Valentyn, General Manager of Marketing for Kia South Africa. “When the Covid-19 pandemic brought the world to a standstill, Kia mobilised and donated one of its reliable K2700 workhorses to RADA to assist with delivering food and other essentials to the various RADA CARE Homes. We are also a happy partner in their annual fundraising raffle, with the ultimate winner enjoying their trip to the awe-inspiring Tiger Canyon in one of Kia’s latest models”, he says.

This year’s raffle will be running during August 2022 and Kia South Africa invites the nation to join it in support of RADA. Anyone can become a RADA angel and sponsor a girl, a grade or a school.
