Binder on a hunt for MotoGP title

South African rider Brad Binder came close to winning his first race of the season in Spain two weeks ago but only managed to finish second.

South African motor biking star Brad Binder will again resume his hunt for the MotoGP title at the French Grand Prix at Le Mans on Sunday afternoon.

The Potchefstroom-born rider came close to winning his first race of the season in Spain two weeks ago but only managed to finish second. He lost out first place to Italian Francesco Bagnaia but managed to hold off KTM teammate Jack Miller who finished third.

More importantly, Binder is third in the championship standing on 62 points and is just three points away from Marco Bezzecchi (65).

World champion Francesco Bagnaia sits pretty on top with  87 points.

The South Africa though defeated Bagnaia to win the sprint a day before

Speaking to Motorcycle Sports, Binder said he would like to believe that he has a chance  to fight for the title. 

 “It is clear that we have been stronger than in previous seasons, regardless of the track we go to.”

 “The team has done an unbelievable job to give us this new machine which is much more competitive and gives me much greater peace of mind coming to a GP knowing that if I do a good job throughout the weekend I can fight for podiums and, hopefully, wins.Whereas in the past if we managed to get into the top five it was probably the most we could get, Binder added.

Binder has won two MotoGP races to date

“It’s exciting for me and I just want to take it one race at a time and try to do the best on the day and get as many points as possible. It’s exciting, I’m looking forward to it, and let’s see what tomorrow brings.
