KwaZulu-Natal teachers and learners have been instructed to don their most regal traditional wear to schools on Tuesday 30 August in celebration of the province’s new Zulu king Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

The instruction was given by MEC for education In KwaZulu-Natal, Mbali Frazer, in a circular this week.

KZN SCHOOLS TO HONOUR ZULU KING

In the circular, the MEC called on children and educators to honour the new Zulu King, who was officially coronated over the weekend.

The decision was taken as part of the province’s “proud history which will continue to be taught in our schools”.

It stated: “It is in that regard that the MEC for education In KwaZulu-Natal, Mbali Frazer, is dedicating Tuesday as a day for schools and the department to celebrate this historic event.

“The MEC is, therefore, requesting all schools in the province to participate in this celebration by encouraging all teachers and all other employees to wear their traditional attire on Tuesday”

The MEC also vowed to work with the Zulu king in the “pursuit of quality public education in the province”.

It added: “That is part of the department’s dedication and honour to the late King Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu, the patron of education, who dedicated his time and resources towards the transformation of education in the province.”

‘BAYEDE DAWG

The Zulu king has already proven a hit with the youth of the country, who have nicknamed him “Bayede Dawg”.

According to Mzansi Taal, the king was given the name as he is “more youthful and identifies with the younger generation more than previous kings”.

The Zulu king also has the support of celebs like Black Coffee, Nomzamo Mbatha and Minnie Dlamini.
