Yes, we’re under lockdown and in the middle of a global pandemic but that doesn’t mean you have to watch reruns of your all-time favourite series on Netflix on a Saturday night. This weekend on Saturday 4 July, you can join the Zeitz MOCAA online event called —  Woza at Home — which boasts an online mix of music, creative workshops, cocktail making and art-led conversation.

WHAT IS ‘WOZA AT HOME’ AND HOW DID IT COME ABOUT?

Before lockdown descended and became the “new normal,” Zeitz MOCAA would stay open late on the first Friday of every month.

“We would have live music, art sessions on our rooftop and museum scavenger hunts. It was a hugely popular event. People would join us after work or varsity, have fun and kickstart their weekend,” said Zeitz MOCAA Communications Manager Lauren Hess.

“People are telling us how much they miss that evening and coming into the space of the museum. We’ve been itching to bring it back and into people’s homes. Woza at Home is not just about people watching someone, it’s about interacting and getting creative,” said Hess.

During the online event, you can sit back and enjoy the music, you can join in the discussion on queer identities in the museum’s Two Together exhibition or you can put your creativity to the test by using ingredients in your kitchen to make a variety of cocktails.

“All ticket sale proceeds go towards bringing the love of art to children in South Africa,” added Hess.

HOW TO JOIN ‘WOZA AT HOME’ ON SATURDAY 4 JULY

The fun starts online at 18:00 and will go on until 21:00 on Saturday 4 July. Each activity, whether it’s music, art or cocktail making will be held in a different online “room”. According to Hess, ticket prices start at R30.

The rooms will be set up in a way that allows you to attend activities of your choosing. Book your tickets here. Links to the Zoom rooms will be sent to ticket-holders at 16:00 on Saturday.
