In June 2022, Statistics South Africa reported that the unemployment rate for South Africans aged between 15 and 24 stands at 63.9% while the national unemployment rate is 34.5%. In an attempt to contribute to more employment opportunities for the youth, MTN has launched its Pulse campaign which gives under 25s the chance to win life-changing opportunities.

MTN PULSE CAMPAIGN

According to IT Web, to mark Youth Month, MTN has pledged itself to help the local youth with exceptional opportunities. Through the programme, under 25s stand a chance to win internships, mentorships and other development opportunities worth R1 million.

There is also an opportunity for the youth to score an opportunity working with television presenter and muso Robot Boii and amapiano star Uncle Waffles.

“Our youth form an integral part of growing the economy and the onus is on corporate SA to invest in equipping the youth with education skills and opportunities to progress. Our youth are our future workforce and only by working together, will we be able to make a positive change,” said MTN Pulse’s youth manager, Mirriam Mathebula.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The MTN Pulse programme is aimed at assisting youth between the ages of 17 and 25 years old. Robot Boii and Uncle Waffles will lead a group of six captains who will mentor the MTN Pulse Class of 2022 Interns.

Those chosen for the programme will also work alongside Happiness Ever After director Thabang Moleya, Fashion professional Anette Pringle-Kӧlsch and Mirriam Mathebula. The interns will also have the opportunity to be an intern at Def Jam Africa, Nasty C, LucasRaos and Stogie T.
